In May 2020, Barcelona City Council made it possible for catering establishments to install or extend terraces in spaces such as traffic lanes and chamfers, eliminating 2,652 parking spaces. These permits are now renewed until 28 February, after which the elements will be removed from the public road, unless the establishments apply for and are granted an ordinary public road licence with other requirements such as an approved accessible furniture-platform.
